You need to go to the creditor and get a letter stating that the account has been satisfied. Then you need to go to the court that placed the judgment, and pay their fees and costs. Once that is done, the clerk will issue a letter that the judgment is satisfied. The original copy will go in the judgment file. Get the clerk to make 5 certified copies. File one in the court as a legal record. Keep another with your records. Contact the 3 credit bureaus and tell them you want the judgment removed. They will send you a form letter to fill out. Attach the letter from the court to their letter, and fill out the bureau 's form letter. Make sure you send them "Return Receipt Requested. " Staple the return receipts to your copy, and then file that with your personal records. Once the bureau confirms your letter, they have 30 days to take action. You may not get it removed, but they have to mark it as paid. |
